I’ve been reading a wonderful book by Dr. Lisa Miller called The Awakened Brain. Dr. Miller earned her B.A. from Yale and her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a clinical psychologist, a professor of Psychology and Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College, and the founder of the Spirituality Mind Body Institute, the first Ivy League program to integrate spirituality and psychology!
Her book is filled with stories of spiritual knowing, all supported by scientific research pointing to one truth:
We are all deeply connected … biologically, emotionally, spiritually.
As I was reading, I thought about one of the foundational tools inside Career Alchemy Academy: Spiritual Intelligence or SQ. That inner wisdom that rises from the part of you connected to everything. The part that knows before you know.
Then I reached a story in the final pages of the book, and my whole system lit up. This is the story I knew I had to share. Because when you know you know.
This was my SQ at work.
The Story of the Fawns and Stating your Desires
Dr. Miller and her husband were out for a date night. At a stoplight, she noticed three young fawns huddled together, looking lost. No mother nearby.
A knowing rose in her and she thought,
“Without their mother, they won’t survive.”
As they continued to their destination, a quiet promise Dr. Miller said,
“I will feed you.”
Immediately followed by a thought most of us would have:
But … how will 3 fawns find me?
The next morning, she stepped outside and there they were.
Three fawns.
Standing in her driveway.
Looking right at her.
They found her.
Allowing the How to find you
We spend so much of our energy gripping the how … trying to force it, plan it, control it, predict it, figure it all out.
But this story reminds us of something deeper: When you are meant to do something, bring your special form of magic into the world, you do not have to work so hard.
You need only to speak your desires aloud and allow the How to reveal itself to you.
I think about the women I coach who are job searching, preparing for career transitions, or stepping into new roles that feel overwhelming. Fear whispers:
- How will I find the job?
- How will I get seen?
- How will I create impact?
- How do I balance all the spinning plates?
- How will I make the money I want to make?
Instead of solving for the How, state the truth of what you desire and allow the How to find you:
- I will create greater prosperity for myself this year.
- I will have meaningful impact.
- I will be seen and valued.
- I will meet the people I’m meant to meet.
- I will make the connections I’m meant to make.
- I will be clear in my communication.
- I will feel joy every day.
- I will receive the guidance and support I need.
- I will remember I am connected to all through love.
Feel it in your body.
Your work is not to chase the how.
Your work is to relax and open up enough to allow the how to find you.
Just like those fawns found Dr. Miller.
Just like every moment of alignment you’ve ever experienced.
Speak the truth of what you desire.
Soften your grip and let the way reveal itself … because it always, always does.
